THE villagers saw off the city, as a 149-run second-wicket partnership between Oliver Henson and Anthony James helped Aston Ingham 1sts to an 82-run Saturday home win over Gloucester 1sts.

Opener Henson scored 79 off 116 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes, while James scored exactly the same off 95 balls, firing 14 fours and two sixes, backed by Tim Dulson with 21 and Craig Baker 28 not out.

Aston reached 265-8 off 50 overs before their bowlers made quick inroads, reducing Gloucester to 41-4.

With wickets falling around him, third man Scott Montgomery scored a magnificent 127 to keep the visitors’ hopes alive, but no one else troubled the scoreboard, Aston skittling them for 183 in 43.1 overs.

Dan Smith took three wickets and Angus Bartlett, Mohamed Dilshad and Sam Didcote two apiece.

The 2nds also won by four wickets away to Rockhampton 3rds, limiting the hosts to 176-8 before reaching 177-6 .

Simon Clark took two wickets, and Jenson Arrowsmith, Sam Fitzmaurice, Tom Day, David Skyrme and Clyde Breetzke one apiece, while skipper Jimmy Davies fired 59, fellow opener Ed Bressington 40 and Ed Bell 33.

But the 3rds were pipped by two wickets at home to Redmarley 2nds, all out for 120 before the visitors reached 124-8.

Leo Lockwood scored 43 before Andrew Hepworth-Smith took three wickets and Philip Leighton two.

And the 4ths lost by eight wickets away to Cinderford 2nds, all out for 86 before the hosts reached 87-2 in 17.1 overs.

Newent 1sts also lost by six wickets at home to Charlton Kings 2nds, Will Trumper scoring 77, Jack Cowles 64, Ollie Corston 35 and Paddy Thompson 24 in their 226-4, and Ben Allard taking three wickets in the visitors’ 230-4 reply.

But the Lions won by 197 runs away to Quedgeley & Hardwicke 4ths, James Griffiths scoring an unbeaten 100 and Gwyn Evans 75 in their 314-3, and Andrew Brookes and Rory Brown taking wicket braces in the 117-7 reply.
